HARP (Homeless Action Resource Project) is an exciting and innovative organisation for the homeless that provides accommodation, advice and support tailored to the specific needs of homeless people in the Southend-on-Sea area to enable them to live independently within the community.

We are looking for experienced and passionate people to join our relief worker bank to cover recruitment, weekends, sickness, maternity and other absences at our 18-bed emergency hostel, busy day centre and secondly in a range of supported housing projects in the Southend and Westcliff area.

All relief workers placed in a support worker capacity will work as part of a team, cover core key working duties and will need to have a good understanding of the issues involved in delivering effective support services to a range of homeless and vulnerable people.

Relief workers are casual workers who are called on as and when required and will need to be able to work flexibly and be willing to work shifts.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Ability to manage difficult situations, and deal with them calmly, efficiently and      effectively
  • An empathy and understanding for homeless people, especially those who have   complex needs.
  • Have the skills to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team, with the   availability to work unsociable hours, including evenings, nights, weekends and Bank   Holidays

Please refer to the Person Specification to complete the Supporting Statement in applying for both posts. Please quote DCNS1 for the Day Centre / Night Shelter vacancies and SH1 for Supported Housing vacancies.
